STOP PRESS: APPLICATIONS HAVE NOW CLOSED. PRIME is hiring. We are looking for an Enterprise Support Worker to work for us part-time in North East Derbyshire. Salary is £12,000 per year part-time - for half a 35 hour week.  You will be responsible for the delivery of PRIME’s programme in the North East Derbyshire area.

A self-starter with strong organisational, interpersonal and communication skills, you will organise and deliver enterprise awareness workshops and provide one-to-one support to clients under the DWP Flexible Routeways programme. This post is based in Chesterfield and is funded initially through to 22 June 2011. Experience of the business advice sector is important.

The London Development Agency is backing a scheme for new and existing small businesses seeking to raise money in the capital.

Though the scheme is heavily subsidised, applicants do have to pay for some required consultancy - typically five days tailored for you particular business.

Tribal Group, the company running the scheme for the LDA, does have some other projects in parts of the Midlands. These are mostly aimed at new businesses starting up in the creative sector, but this is interpreted fairly broadly. More details on their web pages for Derby, Nottingham and the West Midlands.

If you are a new small business in Nottingham then you could win £3,000 in the fourth annual Spirit of Enterprise Awards, run by PRIME-partner Nottinghamshire Business Venture. There are also several smaller prizes for businesses in particular categories.

Refreshingly you can enter “Young Business of the Year” whatever your age - because it’s the age of the business that counts.  It must have been established after the 1st of April 2005 to qualify, so aged under two-and-a- quarter.

Other categories include ones for woman-owned, creative/fashion and rapid growth businesses - this last is open for enterprises that were established any time after 1st of April 2003 .

All the category winners go on to compete for the £2,500 grand prize and title of Nottingham Enterprise of the Year.

The deadline for entries is 12 noon on Friday 31 August 2007. To be eligible to enter you must be located in Nottingham, employ no more than 10 people and be legal. It’s OK to be a self-employed sole trader - you don’t have to be incorporated as a company or partnership. And you can enter in more than one category.
