PRIME Northern Ireland
PRIME has had a presence in Northern Ireland since April 2007, with the project focus on Belfast. The overall objective of the PRIME programme is to increase participation rates of over 50s in the mainstream Start a Business programme.
Delivery is through outreach activity, information and awareness events, seminars and workshops, pre-start mentoring support using volunteer mentors, one-to-one counselling, and signposting and referral to other providers and programmes
The project is targeted to achieve 600 client engagements, delivery of 38 workshops, training for 20 mentors, delivery of 260 mentoring sessions, 15 people to start businesses, and 30 people referred into the Start a Business programme.
Partnerships
Key partners, apart from the funders, are Age Concern Northern Ireland, the Local Enterprise Agencies, Belfast City, Newtownabbey and Castlereagh councils, and Business in the Community.
PRIME’s project staff work closely with community partners, “Jobs & Benefits” offices, adult guidance, the educational sector and a wide range of local agencies to reach the target audience and provide early-stage enterprise assistance.
Funding
Funding for this project is from Invest Northern Ireland, through the Renewing Communities programme, which determines the geographical focus for delivery in five deprived areas of the city.
