Experimental

This page is where we try out things we are not ready to deploy elsewhere on the site. Successful stuff gets adopted, while things that don’t work for some reason get dropped. So this page changes a lot.

Test booking form for events

This can be done within the page, ina tall thin Iframe. But it works better popping up a full-size form in a new window.

Secondly let’s try it within this page in a tall thin Iframe

Taking donations

Since PRIME is a charity we want to give people an easy way to donate if they want to help fund our work. Please note that this doesn’t mean we are about to start charging. At the moment everything we do is free to people who need our services, and this is likely to continue. But the generosity of funders both small and large is what enables us to do what we do.

There are two different requirements for taking donations.

1. Quick small one-off donations, for which something like a Paypal button is the most convenient. Here’s a live Paypal button.

We’re using this for testing and expect it to break after a couple of transactions, so don’t try using it in earnest to give us money! Once fully working we think anything more than about 50p should make us money, but that’s one of the issues we are investigating.

2. Donations large enough for tax to become an issue. In the UK the tax authorities will top up donations from people paying income tax provided they supply the charity with a bit of extra information. This so-called gift aid allows us to recover an extra 25 per cent on most donations. If you pay tax at the higher 40 per cent rate you can also claim partial tax relief yourself on the donation, eventually retrieving a similar amount.

Handling the second type of donation is a bit more complicated at our end (we’ll probably go in with a specialist partner, itself a charity), so we’ll start with asking for simpler Paypal payments first.
